Alma Laser Hair Removal – Considered the “pain-free, hair-free” treatment, the system’s SHR technology and IN Motion protocol heats the targeted area and then SHR’s pulses of energy slowly heat the hair follicles in the skin’s sub dermal layer. Working Out in Warm Weather

Spring has sprung – so take advantage of the beautiful weather before it gets too hot. Now is the perfect time to amp up your workout by taking it outdoors.

Go take a hike
Literally! The desert mountains surrounding our Valley offer fabulous trails for every skill level. Be prepared before you head out for a hike, however, and research the trails so you know what to expect. Don’t forget to slather on the sunscreen, wear a hat and protective shoes and bring plenty of water.

Park it
Our parks are not only great for kids but adults as well. Many feature exercise equipment right there on site along with instructions as to how to use each piece. Even if your local park doesn’t have specific exercise equipment, you can get a great workout just doing what your kids do – climbing the monkey bars, swinging and just plain running around. Do sprints in the grass and make up your own outdoors routine (jumping jacks, lunges, etc.) as your kids play.

Run, baby, run
You need little more than a pair of supportive running shoes to enjoy a fantastic jog around your neighborhood. Amp up your run by setting it to music with Pandora or the perfect playlist on your smartphone or iPod.

Take an outdoor class
Many fitness organizations offer outdoor classes this time of year. If you’re a new mom, check out Stroller Strides, where you can bring baby along in his stroller as you exercise, or check out an outdoor boot camp or yoga class.

Jump rope
If you are limited on time, jumping rope is an excellent way to tone your whole body in just minutes a day. Get a good quality jump rope from a sports store and set aside 10 to 15 minutes per day to “jump” into fitness!

Get up early
Take advantage of the cool mornings by getting up and doing your workout before work or the rest of your hectic day begins. Many find that working out in the morning is the best time to get it done and out of the way so they are not anticipating (or dreading!) it all day long.

Not Too Late for a Flat, Sexy, Summer Tummy

If you’re dreaming of lying on the beach this summer in a teeny bikini showing off a perfectly flat stomach, it’s not too late to make that dream come true.

We at The SHAW Center believe you should feel confident when you rock your swimsuit regardless of your size. But we also understand that you’ll feel your best when you have the body you desire.

Enter abdominoplasty – or a tummy tuck. This surgical procedure removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall, creating a beautifully sculpted stomach.

The tummy tuck is ideal for women who’ve experienced pregnancy or a large amount of weight loss and have loose skin they can’t get rid of despite diet and exercise. It is also ideal for people who are experiencing loss of skin elasticity due to age.

A tummy tuck is a surgical excision of excess skin around the abs. An ellipse of skin is removed between the navel and the hairline of the mons area, eliminating C-section scars as well. The skin above the navel is lifted off the abdominal wall muscles up to the level of the rib cage, then pulled down to the level of the mons and closed. During the procedure, the abdominal wall muscles are tightened, resulting in a narrower waistline.

A tummy tuck procedure lasts about two and a half to three hours and does require some recovery time. Most patients can return to work after two weeks and to more strenuous activity after four to six weeks (sometimes more).

Cover Up When You Go Uncovered!

It’s officially spring! In Arizona, that means our triple digit temps are just weeks away. But don’t wait until then to protect yourself from sun damage.

Protect yourself
Now that warmer weather has you showing more skin, make sure your delicate skin is covered with protective sunscreen. We LOVE our product from Dr. Obagi’s new ZO line of skincare products complete with SPFs. The Oclipse Sunscreen + Primer SPF 30 is composed of natural melanin, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to provide broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. The product was designed to smooth and prime skin prior to make-up application, resulting in an even overall look.

Give it time
Remember to apply not only this product but any sun protection product about 30 minutes before you go out into the sun. This allows the product to fully absorb into the skin’s multiple layers, allowing it to work more effectively than if you apply it immediately before going outside.

Reapply often
Sunscreen is not a “one and done”process. Reapplication is crucial to ensuring you’re skin is protecting for the entire time you’re skin is exposed to the sun. Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours after the initial application and especially after swimming and/or toweling off.

Apply every day
Don’t save sunscreen for a day at the beach. You should apply SPF lotion every single day and reapply it often if you are out in the sun a lot.

Cover up
Despite the fabulous weather, cover up! A little… If you’re going to be in the sun for an extended period of time, wear a big sun hat or a visor, sunglasses and a thin, airy long sleeve blouse or wrap.

Stay hydrated
In addition to drinking lots of water in warmer weather, keep your skin from drying out by applying a high-quality body lotion immediately after you shower and before you go to bed at night. Carry a travel-size lotion for caring for dry hands, elbows and knees while you’re out and about.

Bold rosy red lips
Forget natural and nude! Perk up your pucker with a burgundy, rosy pink, coral-orange or any bright shade that complements your skin tone. Remember to keep the rest of your makeup fairly subtle for a daytime look. But feel free to accentuate those bold lips with dramatic eyeliner come nighttime.

Eyeliner for night and day (and try white!)
As for that eyeliner, all types of eyeliner styles are in this season. Go for a smoldering smudged look or a winged line for a defined “cat-eye.” If you dare, try the white eyeliner trend, which can actually make the eyes look brighter and bigger.

Thick, lush lashes
Bat some long, thick lashes this spring by using a lengthening and thickening mascara or growing your own thicker, longer lashes with one of our lash-enhancing procedures.

Au natural eyebrows
Put down those tweezers! A fuller, more natural looking eyebrow is in for spring so fight the urge to over-manicure those bushy brows this season. If you have thin brows, fill them in with a matching pencil to create a fuller look.

5 Stay Skinny Tips for Spring

With spring upon us, we encourage you to look and feel your best not just with the aid of cosmetic enhancement but also with natural and healthy changes you can do yourself.

1.     Drink lots of water. Even if you think you’re drinking plenty of water, chances are you can up your intake throughout the day. Drink a glass in the morning when you wake up, before each meal (in addition to during your meal) and before you have a snack as you may be confusing signs of thirst for signs of hunger.

2.     Avoid salt. Salt is hidden in even seemingly healthy foods like low-calorie soups. But salt can cause your body to retain water – resulting in a bloated look and feel. Just one teaspoon of table salt has an astounding 2,325 milligrams of sodium. Instead of flavoring your food with salt, try pepper, hot sauce or a squeeze of lemon.

3.     Get fresh. Springtime is the perfect time to stroll the farmers’ markets for local in-season produce. Get your hands on some fresh fruits and veggies and build a salad for a healthy lunch or dinner based on seasonal and delicious fresh foods.

4.     Avoid over-processed and packaged foods. Pre-packaged foods contain lots of unnecessary ingredients to help preserve their shelf life. Opt for natural choices. One trick – avoid the center aisles of your grocery store. The outer aisles contain the produce, meat/poultry/seafood and dairy while the internal aisles are stocked with bags of chips and boxes or crackers that can be diet saboteurs.

5.     Keep moving. Even if you can’t fit in a power session at the gym every day, take advantage of springs fabulous weather and get moving! Take a walk around the block, hike a nearby trail or ride your bike instead of getting in the car to tackle your errands. Get your whole family in on the activity by chasing them around the park, jumping rope together or playing a family game of soccer. Teaching your kids that being active is fun begins with you!

Those Luxurious Lashes...

 Everyone loves the look of dark, thick, long lashes. But not everyone has them or can even achieve them through mascara and eyeliner.

Luckily, there are now various products available that allow people to grow eyelashes, eliminating the need for mascara or eyelash extensions.

Latisse – You may have seen celebrities like Brooke Shields and Claire Danes advertising the amazing results of a product called Latisse.

Latisse offers users long-lasting results with their eyelash treatment and promises full, thick lashes that won’t dry out, become brittle and fall out.

Latisse was the first eyelash treatment to be approved and proven effective by the Food and Drug Administration and remains the only one. It is available by prescription only from your cosmetic enhancement professional.
